Born in 1974 at Gorakhpur (UP), Vijai Kumar Singh obtained masters degree from Gorakhpur University. Later, he received a P.G. Diploma in Dramatic Arts from Bharatendu Natya Academy, Lucknow where he was awarded 'Mrinal Sharma Smriti Chinha' for Best Student. He has also received a fellowship on 'Acting in One Man Shows' from Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India in 2001-02. He has worked as an Actor-Teacher in Theatre-in- Education Company of National School of Drama, New Delhi for about 10 year. He qualified for assistant professor, UGC -NET in Drama /Theatre.

He has directed four TIE Programs with students, i.e. 'Unborn Baby'-a science based story, 'Fair or Foul'- based on 'Macbeth' and 'Ganit Manthan' on the fear of mathematics and ‘khela’ on divorce for TIE course. He has written articles for Rang Prasang, Natrang and several other theatre magazines. He had participated in many International and National Theatre Festivals. He has 27 years experience in both theatres for adult and children. He has acted in many plays including 'Holi' and 'Aur Kitne Tukde' directed by Kirti Jain, 'Kavi Kahani' directed by Rajendra Nath, 'Exception & Rule' directed by R.P. Singh Gupta, 'Ifaqat' directed by C.R. Jambe and 'Lekin Wo To Ladki Thi' directed by Tanuj Kohli, etc.

Khatana, 'Khulja Sim Sim' dir. B.V. Karanth, 'Par Hamen Khelana Hai', 'Deewar', 'Rani and Pinto' dir. Mohan Agashe, 'Makai Ka Dana' dir. V.K. Sharma, 'Sab Kuchh Chakachak' dir. Kirti Jain and 'Ramabai' dir. Maya Rao.

He has a wide experience of working with eminent theatre and TIE Experts such as Ratan Thiyam, B.V. Karanth, Raj Bisaria, Rajinder Nath, Kirti Jain, Anuradha Kapur, Devendra Raj Ankur, Tripurari Sharma, Anamika Haksar, Bhanu Bharti, Hemant Bhatia, Hema Singh, Nisar Allana, Atul Tiwari, Tanuj Kohli, Dolly Ahluwalia Tiwari, V. Ramamurti, Anjee Babu, Kamlesh Dutt Tripathi, Narendra Sharma, Arjun Mishra,, Niranjan Goswami, Prabeer Guha, Mohan Agashe, V.K. Sharma, D.P. Sinha, Maya Rao, Abdul Latif Khatana, Daniel Kelvin II, Geoff Readman, Lewis frost etc. In 2012, he was appointed as Asst. Director of National School of Drama TIE Wing, Tripura and started working as Drama Educator and teaching Drama and Theatre-in-Education subjects in its one year TIE course and in 2015 he has given appointed as Director at NSD, TIE Wing, and Tripura.

Presently he is visiting faculty in NSD & various intuitions and member as TIE expert of Board of study, school of drama, university of Calicut.
